I have been wanting to paint something for ASD for years but it’s been so hard to create something that really conveys the hope and the heartache. Since ASD has no concrete biomarkers, my typical anatomy illustrations wouldn't work. So instead I focused on mental and emotional connections, connections that come so rapidly and easily to most, but not all. These connections are showcased by the plethora of lines amongst the brains. The heart of the painting, though, is in that one tenuous, broken line working to connect with the unique brain in the center. Building, mending and strengthening that one connection requires a lifetime of resilience and love.
This is the perfect print for any autistic people, parents, therapists, teachers, or loved ones of someone with ASD.
